Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh announced the completion of the first phase of the Creekwalk Security Camera Initiative on Thursday (June 5). This initiative aims to enhance safety and security along the Creekwalk Trail, which stretches from Onondaga Lake to downtown Syracuse. The city has installed 20 new cameras at strategic locations to create a safer environment for trail users.
According to the City of Syracuse, these cameras are positioned in busy spots such as the Inner Harbor's kayak launch and near the Inner Harbor amphitheater. Mayor Walsh stated, "Our primary goal is to increase safety along the Creekwalk. Security cameras will serve as both a deterrent to unlawful activities and a vital resource for law enforcement, providing valuable video documentation when necessary."
The Syracuse Police Department will oversee the operation and monitoring of the cameras. This initiative is part of a broader effort to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all who use the Creekwalk Trail.
