David Huff, accused of murdering his girlfriend Yeraldith Tschudy and his son Jeremiah Huff, faced a judge in Onondaga County Court on Tuesday (May 27). Prosecutors allege that on March 17, Huff used a Remington 870 Express 12-gauge shotgun to kill 32-year-old Tschudy and 11-year-old Jeremiah at a home on Roney Road in Syracuse. Huff is charged with first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder, and criminal possession of a weapon.

In addition to these charges, Huff faces a new indictment for second-degree attempted murder for allegedly pointing the shotgun at his stepfather, Charles O’Donnell, though the gun malfunctioned. According to CNY Central, Huff fled the scene and was later found at Upstate Community Hospital, where he was tracked and arrested by New York State Police on the West Seneca Turnpike.

Huff, who remains in custody at the Onondaga County Justice Center, pleaded not guilty to all charges. His defense attorney, Shaun Chase, described the situation as "tragic." Syracuse.com reported that if convicted of first-degree murder, Huff could face life in prison without parole.

Assistant District Attorney Rob Moran indicated that Huff might undergo a mental health evaluation as part of his defense strategy. The case continues to unfold as the prosecution awaits the defense's next steps.
