Starting today, Interstate 81 southbound in Syracuse will be reduced to one lane between the on-ramp to Interstate 690 eastbound and Exit 18. This lane reduction will occur from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on weekdays, as bridge work is conducted. The roadwork is expected to continue until Friday, June 6.

The New York State Department of Transportation urges drivers to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in these areas, and multiple violations could lead to a driver's license suspension. According to the New York State Department of Transportation, construction activities are weather-dependent and subject to change.

Motorists can find live traffic updates on the 511NY website. The department emphasizes the importance of keeping highway workers safe by adhering to traffic control devices and signs.
