As the summer travel season begins, gas prices in Central New York are holding steady, according to AAA. The average price for a gallon of regular fuel is $3.09, unchanged from last week but a penny higher than last month. The state average is slightly higher at $3.13, while the national average stands at $3.18.

AAA reports that gas prices have remained stable, despite fluctuations in recent weeks. As of today (May 27), the national average is $3.174, with New York's average at $3.125. The stability comes ahead of Memorial Day weekend, a peak travel time when gas prices often rise.

The AAA update from May 22 noted that the national average had remained the same as the previous week, providing relief for travelers. However, prices have fluctuated slightly in different regions. The West Coast saw a significant increase of over six cents, while the East Coast experienced a decline of about five cents.

Despite these regional changes, the overall national average has not seen significant movement. According to Automotive Fleet, the national average has hovered between $3.14 and $3.17 in recent weeks. Analysts suggest that gas prices may remain stable as refineries complete seasonal maintenance and increase output.
