Joe Gross, the president of the Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District Board of Education, has resigned from his position. Gross, who has served on the board since 2020, cited personal reasons for his departure in a resignation letter submitted earlier this week. His second term was set to expire in 2026.

The school district announced that a meeting is scheduled for June 2 to discuss how to fill the vacant seat. During his tenure, Gross played a key role in several significant initiatives, including the development of a capital project, school safety upgrades, and the hiring of the district's incoming superintendent for the 2025-26 school year. Superintendent Peter Smith expressed gratitude for Gross' contributions, stating, "We thank Mr. Gross for his service to the district."

According to the district's announcement, the board and administrators have consulted with the district's attorney to determine the appropriate next steps. The resignation comes shortly after the annual school budget vote and board election, though it does not impact the results of those events.

NewsBreak reports that the board will review options for filling Gross' seat at the upcoming meeting.
