A new traffic light has been installed at the intersection of Caughdenoy Road and Maple Road in Clay, a site known for frequent accidents. Over the past two years, at least eight crashes have occurred at this location, according to the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office. Residents have long voiced concerns about the intersection, citing issues like confusing signs, poor lighting, and blind spots.

The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) responded by setting up a temporary traffic signal to enhance safety and reduce accidents. As reported by InformNNY.com, the installation process involved setting up poles and attaching lights, with the hope that the new signal will provide clearer guidance for drivers.

Local resident Mike Greco, who has been vocal about the dangers of the intersection, expressed relief at the new measure. He previously asked, "What do we have to have, somebody die?" during a drive with NewsChannel 9's Rachel Polansky, highlighting the urgent need for action.

The NYSDOT plans to continue monitoring the intersection to determine if a permanent traffic signal or additional safety improvements are necessary.
