As Memorial Day weekend approaches, residents in Central New York are experiencing steady gas prices. According to Triple A, the average cost for a gallon of regular fuel is $3.05, unchanged from last week and only a penny higher than a month ago. The state average is slightly higher at $3.13, while the national average stands at $3.17.

This stability in gas prices comes as an estimated 39 million Americans are expected to travel during the holiday weekend. Driving remains the preferred mode of transportation, with AAA projecting that 39.4 million people will take to the roads. Despite concerns over rising prices, many are taking advantage of the long weekend to spend time with family and friends.

The current gas prices are lower than last year's Memorial Day average of $3.59, thanks to lower crude oil prices. As the unofficial start of summer kicks off the busy driving season, demand is expected to rise, which may lead to an increase in pump prices. However, for now, travelers can enjoy the benefit of steady gas prices as they plan their holiday trips.
