A woman is in critical condition after being rescued from the Oswego River in Oswego on Thursday (May 15). Emergency crews responded to reports of a body in the water near West Seneca Street around 7:30 a.m. The Oswego Fire and Police Departments, along with Menter Ambulance, coordinated efforts using rescue boats and a drone to locate the woman near the west wall of the river.
The woman was found unresponsive and was moved to a nearby dock, where paramedics attempted life-saving measures. She was then transported to Oswego Hospital, where she remains in critical condition. Oswego Fire Chief Paul Conzone noted that the river was flowing at a high velocity and the water temperature was below 50 degrees, making the rescue challenging.
The Oswego Police Department is investigating how the woman ended up in the river and is seeking information from the public. Anyone with details is encouraged to contact Investigator Derek Jannson at 315-342-8120.
According to CNY Central, the rescue was a coordinated effort by multiple agencies. LocalSYR reported that the woman was quickly located and moved to safety. Syracuse.com confirmed the ongoing investigation by the police department.
