An investigation is underway following a shooting incident in Syracuse, where 42-year-old Donnell Hogan died. The incident occurred Tuesday night (May 13) on North Townsend Street. Syracuse police responded to reports of shots fired and encountered Hogan actively shooting inside an apartment building. Officers exchanged gunfire with Hogan, but it remains unclear if he was killed by police gunfire.

According to WSYR-TV, police recovered a handgun at the scene. The New York State Attorney General's Office is conducting a preliminary assessment of the incident, as it investigates all civilian deaths involving law enforcement actions. The Syracuse Police Department has not disclosed whether Hogan was struck by an officer's weapon.

The incident took place at the Moses Dewitt House apartments, operated by Christopher Community, which provides housing for low- and moderate-income families. The area remained closed off on Wednesday morning (May 14) as the investigation continued. CNY Central reported that no officers or other individuals were injured during the shooting.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the Syracuse Police Department Criminal Investigations Division at (315) 442-5222. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected as the Attorney General's Office continues its review.
