The Madison County Sheriff's Office is conducting a training exercise today (May 13) in Wampsville. The exercise, which will continue through Wednesday (May 14), is taking place at the old Madison County Highway Administration Building on North Court Street from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. both days.

This reality-based training involves emergency vehicles, uniformed officers, and simulated gunfire. The Sheriff's Office has emphasized that this is only a training exercise and there is no actual emergency. According to CNY Central, the public should be aware of the activity and avoid the area during the exercise.

Madison County officials have assured residents that any sounds heard from the building are part of the controlled training environment. Utica Observer-Dispatch reports that North Court Street will remain open to traffic, but residents are asked to steer clear of the vicinity for safety reasons.

The Sheriff's Office aims to prepare deputies for real-life scenarios, enhancing their response capabilities in emergencies. The public is reminded that there is no danger associated with the exercise, as confirmed by Rome Sentinel.
