The New York State Attorney General's Office has concluded its investigation into a shooting incident involving 19-year-old Treyvon Nellons in Syracuse. The investigation determined that Nellons died by suicide, ruling out any involvement by Syracuse police officers. The incident occurred on March 27 when Nellons shot himself in the head on Amherst Avenue after a domestic dispute.

According to Syracuse Police Chief Joseph Cecile, the incident began when a woman reported that her ex-boyfriend, Nellons, was in her home and had become physical. Nellons fled the scene before officers arrived but was later tracked to a location on Amherst Avenue. As officers approached, Nellons shot himself. He was taken to Upstate University Hospital, where he died from his injuries on March 30.

Under New York law, the Attorney General's Office is required to investigate all fatal incidents involving law enforcement. After a preliminary review, the AG's office concluded that the incident did not meet the criteria for further investigation, as no officers discharged their weapons. Chief Cecile expressed condolences to Nellons' family and confirmed that the police department's investigation aligns with the AG's findings.

The Syracuse Police Department received assistance from the New York State Police and the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office during the incident. Officers involved in the response are receiving peer support at the Public Safety Building. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Syracuse Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division.
