Syracuse Police Cleared Of Any Wrongdoing In Shooting Death On Amherst Ave

Syracuse, N.Y. - State Attorney General's Office says no investigation or charges will be coming after a man shot himself in front of Syracuse police back in March.

Around 1 o'clock on the afternoon of March 27th, Officers were called to the100 block of Weiser Court, after 19 year old Treyvon Nellons, fired shots inside an apartment. He fled the scene but Police found him later on Amherst Avenue. As Police were talking to him, Nellons shot himself in the head.

He died at the hospital 3 days later.

Syracuse Police Chief Joseph Cecile said that body cams showed that none of his officers fired a shot during the ordeal.

The Attorney General's Office states, after their preliminary assessment of the incident, they concluded that the matter does not meet the requirements for their Office to have investigative authority or criminal jurisdiction. This decision aligns with the findings of the Syracuse Police Department's investigation as well.

The AG's office says nothing warrants further investigation and the case is considered closed.

Chief Cecile says he would like to extend his condolences to the family of Mr. Nellons.
