Starting tonight, drivers on Interstate 81 in Salina and Cicero will face overnight lane closures. The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) announced that the highway's northbound lanes between Exits 27-28 and Exit 98 will be reduced to one lane. This closure is part of the ongoing Interstate 81 Viaduct Project, specifically for setting steel on the South Bay Road Bridge.
The lane reduction will occur from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night, beginning Tuesday (May 6) through Friday (May 9). Construction activities are dependent on weather conditions, and any changes will be communicated by the NYSDOT. Motorists are advised to drive cautiously through the work zone and adhere to all traffic control devices, including signs and flaggers.
According to WSYR-TV, fines for speeding in work zones are doubled, and multiple violations could lead to the suspension of a driver's license.
The NYSDOT encourages drivers to follow the I-81 Viaduct Project updates on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and X.
