Starting Monday (May 5), Centro will provide free bus rides to veterans in Syracuse. The new initiative, known as the Veteran Pass program, offers an unlimited ride pass to all honorably discharged veterans who apply through their local Veteran Services Agency. Once approved, veterans can pick up their passes at their nearest Centro office. The pass will be valid on all regular bus routes in Onondaga, Oneida, Oswego, and Cayuga counties.

Centro Deputy Chief Executive Officer Christopher Tuff expressed enthusiasm about the program, stating, "We are thrilled to honor those who have served our country by offering free rides for veterans on our bus services." New York State Assembly Member Pamela Hunter, who is also a veteran, emphasized the importance of this initiative, saying it removes barriers and creates real opportunities for veterans.

The Veteran Pass is designed to make public transportation more accessible for veterans, allowing them to ride any day of the week and at any time. To apply, veterans must visit their local Veteran Services Office to complete an application. Once verified, they can have their photo taken and receive their Veteran Pass at a Centro facility. The pass is recognized by Centro drivers and is accepted at fareboxes without the need for additional identification.

For more information, veterans can visit the Centro website or contact their local Veteran Services Agency. The pass is valid for 10 years, and a replacement fee applies for lost or stolen passes.
