Five former corrections officers from Marcy Correctional Facility in Utica, New York, have been given additional time to decide whether to accept plea deals related to the beating death of inmate Robert Brooks. The officers, Anthony Farina, Mathew Galliher, Nicholas Gentile, Nicholas Kieffer, and David Kingsley, are part of a group of ten individuals accused in connection with Brooks' death last December.
The extension was granted after the prosecution introduced new evidence, including additional bodycam footage that was recently retrieved using a third-party service. This new discovery prompted defense attorneys to request more time to evaluate the plea offers.
According to CBS 6 Albany, Nicholas Kieffer and Nicholas Gentile, both facing charges of second-degree murder, will return to court on May 13 to continue deliberations. Mathew Galliher is scheduled to appear on May 19, while David Kingsley is set for May 27. The decision for each officer will determine whether they will proceed to a pre-trial hearing in June.
