Residents in Pompey are advocating for increased safety measures following a fatal crash at the intersection of Broadfield Road and Sweet Road. On Saturday (April 26), 21-year-old Jacob Korkue died after failing to stop at a stop sign on Broadfield Road, leading to a collision with another vehicle driven by 71-year-old Edward Agrasto on Sweet Road. Three others, including Korkue's 19-year-old passenger Caleb Korkue and Agrasto's 69-year-old passenger Susan Tripodi, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to Upstate Hospital.

Local resident Russ Kopylczak, who lives on Sweet Road, described the crash as sounding like "a very large boulder falling into a dump truck." He and other neighbors believe that installing additional stop signs at the intersection could prevent future accidents. "It would be a good idea to consider a four-way stop for the intersection," Kopylczak said, emphasizing the importance of safety for both locals and travelers.

The New York State Police, along with the Collision Reconstruction Unit, are investigating the cause of the crash. As the investigation continues, the community remains focused on advocating for changes to improve road safety in the area.

The investigation is ongoing, and residents are hopeful that their calls for additional stop signs will be heard.
