Residents of Onondaga County will experience delays in trash collection this week due to an equipment failure at the Rock Cut Road Transfer Station in Jamesville. The Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency (OCRRA) announced that the facility was shut down on Monday (April 28) because of a mechanical issue at the waste-to-energy facility, which processes the county's municipal solid waste.
The transfer station will remain closed until Thursday (May 1), affecting both residential and commercial customers served by municipal and private haulers. As a result, curbside and commercial pickups will be delayed. OCRRA stated, "The temporary closure was a difficult, but necessary, decision," and apologized for the inconvenience caused to residents and businesses.
Residents can find updates and waste reduction tips, such as buying materials with minimal packaging and composting, on the OCRRA website. For more information, visit OCRRA's official site.
