Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh has announced two upcoming hiring events aimed at filling various city positions. The first event, hosted by the Department of Water, will take place tomorrow (April 29) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Meachem Ice Rink, located at 121 W. Seneca Turnpike. This event will offer onsite interviews and job offers for roles such as watershed inspector, water system construction engineers, and water maintenance workers. Some positions require a commercial driver’s license and a driving test.
The second hiring event is scheduled for May 12 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Cecile Community Center at 174 W. Seneca Turnpike. This job fair will recruit for various departments, with a focus on temporary summer staff for the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Youth Services. Available positions include lifeguards, recreation leaders, special events staff, park maintenance, and grounds workers. Applicants for Parks and Recreation must be at least 16 years old and have a work certificate and government-issued photo ID.
Mayor Walsh emphasized the importance of making city careers accessible to residents. "Bringing these hiring events to community spaces allows candidates to have direct conversations with hiring managers," he said. Commissioner Robert Brandt added, "We want candidates to know we are serious about removing barriers to good careers."
Candidates are encouraged to bring multiple copies of their resumes for immediate interviews. For more information, visit syr.gov/jobs or contact personnel@syr.gov.
