Syracuse Police Investigate Fatal Shooting Near Armory Square

Syracuse police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred near Armory Square on Wednesday (April 23). Officers responded to the intersection of South West Street and West Fayette Street around 4:30 p.m. and found a man in his 60s with a gunshot wound to the head. The victim was transported to Upstate University Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

According to CNY Central, police have taken one person into custody, but their identity has not been released. The area was cordoned off with crime scene tape, and evidence such as a discarded knife and a pool of blood was found at the scene.

Initial reports from Syracuse.com suggest that the incident began when a man approached a car with a knife and was subsequently shot. The investigation is ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information to contact the Syracuse Police Department at 315-442-5222.
