The Oneida City Police Department, in collaboration with the Oneida City School District, is set to host its annual Mock DWI event at Oneida High School on May 1. This event aims to educate students about the serious consequences of impaired driving, especially as prom season approaches.
The Mock DWI event features a realistic reenactment of a car crash caused by impaired driving. The Oneida High School Drama Club will participate by portraying impaired drivers, while local emergency services, including the Fire Department, Vineall Ambulance, Ironside Funeral Home, and Jeff’s Towing, will contribute to the simulation.
Oneida Police Chief Steven Lowell emphasized the importance of the event, stating, "It’s not just about showing the dangers of impaired driving, it’s about reminding our young people that their lives matter, that their choices matter, and that they are supported by a community that deeply cares for their well-being." According to WSYR-TV, the goal is to inspire students to make responsible decisions not just on prom night, but every day.
The Oneida Police Department expressed gratitude to all volunteers and organizations involved in bringing the event to life, highlighting the community's commitment to building a safer and more informed environment.
