Metallica expressed gratitude to their fans after setting a new attendance record at the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse on Saturday (April 19). Over 47,500 fans attended the concert, surpassing the previous record of 47,319 set by The Who in 1982. The band shared the news on social media the following day, thanking their supporters for the milestone achievement.
The concert was part of Metallica's M72 World Tour, which kicked off its new leg in Syracuse. The band, consisting of James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Robert Trujillo, performed hits like "Enter Sandman," "For Whom the Bell Tolls," and "Master of Puppets." The setup included a circular stage at the 50-yard line, allowing fans to fill the entire stadium and stand around the stage.
The event also featured opening acts Pantera and Suicidal Tendencies. Despite some acoustic challenges, the concert was a success, showcasing Metallica's enduring popularity and energy. The tour will continue to Toronto before heading to various locations across the U.S. and overseas, concluding in Auckland, New Zealand, in November.
