The Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District Board of Education has selected Dr. Darcy Woodcock as the new superintendent. Dr. Woodcock, a Central New York native, will officially start her role on July 1, following the retirement of the current superintendent, Dr. Peter Smith, at the end of the academic year.
Dr. Woodcock brings over two decades of educational experience to her new position. She is currently the superintendent of Tully Central Schools and has previously served in various educational roles, including Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction at Westhill Central School District, Director of Professional Development for Syracuse City Schools, and Principal of Liverpool Elementary School. Her teaching career began in Florida, and she later taught in the Fayetteville-Manlius Central School District.
The Board of Education conducted a thorough search process, guided by Dr. Matthew Cook of OCM BOCES, which included surveys and focus groups with nearly 400 community members to identify the desired qualities in a new leader. Board President Joe Gross expressed confidence in Dr. Woodcock's ability to lead, stating, "She is an effective leader and communicator who always prioritizes students."
Dr. Woodcock holds a bachelor's degree in elementary science education and special education from SUNY Geneseo, a master's degree in literacy from SUNY Oswego, and a doctorate in Educational Administration and Leadership from Walden University. She is eager to begin her new role, stating, "I look forward to building strong relationships and earning the trust of our students, families, staff, and community."
