Motorists traveling on Interstate 481 in DeWitt should prepare for lane closures this week. The New York State Department of Transportation has announced that traffic will be reduced to one lane in both directions from 5 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Friday (April 4). These closures are part of the ongoing I-81 Viaduct Project, with workers installing overhead signs between Exit 5W (Kirkville Road West) and Exit 7 (Bridgeport).

The construction activities are weather-dependent and may change based on conditions. Drivers are urged to exercise caution, pay attention to signs and flaggers, and be aware that fines for speeding in work zones are doubled. According to the New York State Department of Transportation, repeated speeding violations in work zones can lead to the suspension of a driver's license.

The lane closures are part of a larger effort to improve infrastructure as part of the I-81 Viaduct Project. The project aims to enhance safety and connectivity in the region. For up-to-date travel information, the public can call 511 or visit 511NY.org.
