Central Square Student Hit by Car, Hospitalized in Critical Condition

A 12-year-old student from Central Square Middle School was rushed to the hospital after being struck by a vehicle on Monday (March 31) in Hastings, New York. The incident occurred as the girl was crossing Route 11 in front of the school during dismissal time. According to WSYR-TV, the student was taken to Upstate Medical University Hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

Several classmates witnessed the accident from their buses, creating a distressing scene for many students. Central Square Superintendent Thomas J. Colabufo communicated with parents via email, assuring them that counseling services would be available for students and staff to help cope with the incident, as reported by Syracuse.com.

The driver involved in the accident remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities. According to the New York State Police, the driver is not expected to face any charges. Superintendent Colabufo has requested the community to keep the injured student in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

The incident has prompted a reminder of the importance of road safety, especially in school zones. As the community rallies around the affected family, the school district continues to provide support to those impacted by the event.
