Buildings across Onondaga County will be illuminated in green tonight to honor Jeremiah Huff, an 11-year-old boy who was tragically killed in a double homicide last Monday (March 17) in Syracuse. Jeremiah and 32-year-old Yeraldith Tschudy were shot with a shotgun at a home on Roney Road. Prosecutors allege that Jeremiah's father, David Huff, is responsible for the murders. He is currently being held in jail without bail.

Jeremiah was a sixth-grader at Gillette Road Middle School, remembered for his vibrant personality and love for the outdoors. According to his obituary, he had a passion for rocks, fishing, camping, and sports like basketball, baseball, and soccer. His mother, Samantha Gallup Peltier, described him as a "vibrant, kind, warm, and adventurous young boy" who was a joy to be around. Jeremiah's tragic death has deeply affected the local community, with Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon describing him as a special child who will be greatly missed.

The double homicide has shocked the community, and the lighting of buildings in green is a gesture to honor Jeremiah's life. According to Syracuse.com, Jeremiah's school has offered counseling to students, and the district has expressed its condolences to his family.

David Huff has been charged with first- and second-degree murder, as well as criminal possession of a weapon. The Onondaga County District Attorney, William Fitzpatrick, stated that Huff used a 12-gauge shotgun to commit the crime. A manhunt lasting several hours ended with Huff's arrest by New York State Police. The community continues to mourn the loss of Jeremiah and Tschudy as they seek justice for the victims.
