Construction work will commence tonight on Interstate 481 in Syracuse resulting in overnight closures. The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) announced that the southbound lanes of I-481 will be closed between Exit 1 (Brighton Avenue) and Interstate 81 northbound from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. starting Monday (March 24) through Saturday (April 5). This closure is part of the ongoing I-81 Viaduct Project, which involves repairing retaining walls.
The on-ramp from East Brighton Avenue northbound to I-81 northbound will also be closed during these hours. Detours will be clearly posted to assist drivers in navigating the area. According to NYSDOT, construction activities are weather-dependent and may change based on conditions.
Motorists are urged to drive carefully and adhere to posted speed limits in work zones, as fines are doubled for speeding. The NYSDOT reminds drivers that multiple speeding violations in work zones could lead to a suspended driver's license. For updates, travelers can visit the NYSDOT website or call 511 for the latest travel information.
