Central New York drivers are experiencing a slight relief at the pump, as the average price for a gallon of regular fuel has decreased to $3.11. According to AAA, this marks a three-cent drop from last week and a seven-cent decrease from one month ago. The state average currently stands at $3.10, while the national average is slightly higher at $3.12.

The recent decline in gas prices can be attributed to various factors, including fluctuations in the oil market and changes in seasonal demand. Despite the ongoing transition to summer-blend gasoline, which is more expensive to produce, the price of crude oil remains below $70 a barrel, helping to keep prices relatively stable.

AAA reports that while gas prices have shown a downward trend, the national average did see a slight increase of four cents recently, influenced by the seasonal switch to summer-blend gasoline. This type of gasoline is designed to reduce evaporation in warmer temperatures, which contributes to its higher production cost.
