In Syracuse, New York, David Huff, 43, is under one-on-one supervision in jail after being charged with the murders of his girlfriend, 32-year-old Yeraldith Tschudy, and his 11-year-old son, Jeremiah Huff. The Onondaga County Sheriff's Office confirmed that Huff is wearing anti-suicide safety wear. The tragic incident occurred on Monday night (March 17) at Huff's father's home on Roney Road.
Huff faces one count of first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder, and a charge of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He pleaded not guilty to all charges during an emotional arraignment on Wednesday morning (March 19), where family members of the victims expressed their grief and anger in court. Samantha Gallup-Peltier, Jeremiah's mother, urged the community to remember her son, saying, "Please don't stop saying his name. Jeremiah Huff. We will miss him every day."
According to CNY Central, the criminal complaint states that Huff used a Remington 870 Express 12 Gauge shotgun to kill Tschudy and Jeremiah. Prosecutors are considering adding an attempted murder charge after Huff allegedly pointed the weapon at his stepfather. Onondaga County District Attorney Bill Fitzpatrick mentioned that a grand jury will review the charges soon.
The motive for the shooting remains unclear, as Huff has no known history of domestic violence. The investigation is ongoing, and Spectrum Local News reported that the case would be presented to a grand jury in the coming days. Huff's next court appearance is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Friday.
Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh expressed his condolences and gratitude to the community members who helped in Huff's swift apprehension. He stated, "I ask all of Syracuse to join me in providing strength and support to those most impacted."
