All activities in the Baldwinsville Central School District are resuming today after a series of incidents prompted a lockdown and the cancellation of after-school programs. On Thursday (March 20), C.W. Baker High School was placed on lockdown when a student was found with what was initially thought to be a BB gun. However, it was later identified as an Orby gun, which shoots water absorbent gel balls.
The lockdown began at 11:25 a.m., and a hold-in-place order was issued until law enforcement cleared the scene. According to CNY Central, the Baldwinsville Police Department, Onondaga County Sheriff's Office, and New York State Police responded to the incident. All students and staff were reported safe, and counseling supports are available for those in need.
Later in the day, a threatening voice message was received by the district, leading to a lockout across all schools and the cancellation of after-school activities. The district later determined the threat was not credible. Superintendent Joseph M. DeBarbieri assured parents that "normal activities" have resumed and that all staff and students are safe.
Syracuse.com reported that law enforcement is continuing to investigate the incidents. Activities will proceed as scheduled today, and parents can expect regular dismissal procedures.
