Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon will present his annual State of the County address tonight (March 20) at Onondaga Central High School in Nedrow. The speech, beginning at 6 p.m., will be streamed live on the county executive's website. McMahon is expected to discuss several key initiatives, including the future of the Micron Technology project in Clay and plans for a new aquarium in Syracuse.
The Micron project, a significant development in the county, involves constructing four chip fabrication plants at White Pine Commerce Park. Despite recent comments by President Donald Trump questioning the CHIPS & Science Law, McMahon has reassured the public that the project is proceeding as planned. According to Spectrum Local News, McMahon emphasized the project's importance for national security and economic growth.
Additionally, McMahon is likely to address the controversial plan to build an aquarium in Syracuse's Inner Harbor. As reported by LocalSYR, the county executive has requested an additional $11 million in funding to cover rising costs, with a promise to seek private donations and sponsorships to offset the expenses.
McMahon chose Onondaga Central High School for the address to highlight the ERIE 21 technology education program, which received a $250,000 grant from the county last year. The program, run by Le Moyne College, aims to provide technology education to students from the Onondaga and LaFayette school districts. According to Syracuse.com, McMahon's address will cover a range of initiatives, reflecting his ongoing commitment to the county's development and education.
