The Madison County Sheriff's Office has issued a warning about a phone scam targeting local residents. Scammers are calling individuals, falsely claiming to be from the sheriff's office and stating that a warrant has been issued for their arrest due to missed jury duty. In some instances, the caller ID is spoofed to appear as if the call is from a legitimate source.
The sheriff's office urges anyone receiving such calls to hang up immediately and avoid sharing any personal or financial information. Victims of this scam are encouraged to report the incident by contacting the sheriff's office at 315-366-2311.
According to CNY Central, the scam has been circulating in the area, prompting the sheriff's office to alert the community. Local Syracuse also reports that the sheriff's office advises residents not to provide any financial information over the phone. The Oneida Dispatch further emphasizes the importance of vigilance and reporting suspicious calls to prevent further victimization.
