In Syracuse, a jury has found David Kirby guilty of second-degree murder for the fatal shooting of Apreona Harris, a pregnant woman, in December 2023. The verdict was reached in less than two hours on Thursday (March 13). Kirby shot Harris in the head near the Rescue Mission in Syracuse after a brief argument. Despite the tragic incident, Harris's baby was successfully delivered before she passed away.

The crime, which was caught on camera, showed Kirby fleeing the scene after the shooting. Syracuse Police Detective Mamoun Abraham, who witnessed the event, pursued Kirby and eventually apprehended him after a chase. During the trial, prosecutors presented multiple videos capturing the shooting and Kirby's subsequent flight. The videos played a crucial role in the jury's decision, as they clearly showed Kirby's actions.

Kirby and Harris had a previous romantic relationship, and Harris had previously filed charges against Kirby for assault, although no arrest was made due to paperwork issues. The defense argued that the shooter was not clearly visible in the videos, but the prosecution maintained that the evidence was clear and compelling.

Kirby will face sentencing in April, where he could receive a sentence ranging from 22 years to life in prison. The case has drawn significant attention due to the nature of the crime and the evidence presented during the trial.
