New data indicates that flu cases continue to be prevalent across Central New York. During the week ending Saturday (March 1), Onondaga County reported the highest number of infections with 397 cases. This was followed by Oneida County with 207 cases and Oswego County with 140 cases.

Health experts stress the importance of practicing good hygiene and getting vaccinated to protect against the flu. The New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) recommends flu vaccinations for everyone six months and older, especially for young children, older adults, and individuals with chronic medical conditions. The flu season, which typically runs from October through May, has seen widespread activity across the state, prompting the NYSDOH to extend its surveillance season until flu activity decreases.

According to the New York State Department of Health, more than 31 of the state's 62 counties have reported increased or sustained numbers of lab-confirmed flu cases. As of recent reports, there have been 5,818 flu-related hospitalizations statewide, with 2,206 occurring in the past week.

For those seeking flu vaccinations, a list of immunization clinics can be found at vaccines.gov. Health officials continue to encourage residents to get vaccinated and practice good hygiene to reduce the risk of severe illness.
