The city of Oswego remains under a boil water advisory for the seventh ward due to ongoing water main repairs. Residents are advised to boil tap water for two minutes before use or opt for bottled water certified by the New York State Department of Health. This precaution is necessary to avoid potential health risks from harmful microbes in the water, which can cause symptoms like diarrhea, cramps, nausea, and headaches. These symptoms can be particularly dangerous for infants, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems.
The advisory affects all residents in the seventh ward, which has about 2,000 registered voters, and anyone impacted by the water outage that occurred on Thursday morning (March 6). According to Oswego County, the advisory will last for 48 hours, during which boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth, and preparing food.
Residents seeking more information can contact Jon Lacey at the Oswego Water Treatment Plant or the Oswego County Health Department. The city will notify residents once water tests confirm it is safe to discontinue boiling water.
