The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) has announced a public meeting to discuss the proposed replacement of the Interstate 81 bridges over U.S. Route 11 in Nedrow, Onondaga County. The meeting will take place on Wednesday, March 5, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Nedrow Fire Station, located at 6505 South Salina Street.
The existing bridges, constructed in 1962, have reached the end of their service life. The proposed project aims to replace these four-span bridges with single-span steel structures, maintaining the current alignment. The new bridges will feature two 12-foot travel lanes and expanded shoulders, enhancing safety and efficiency for all legal loads traveling between Onondaga and Cortland Counties. During construction, a temporary two-lane structure will be used to minimize disruptions to traffic.
The project is currently in the preliminary design phase, with construction expected to begin in 2026. The open-house style meeting will allow attendees to review preliminary plans and ask questions to NYSDOT representatives. No formal presentation is planned, but the meeting is part of NYSDOT’s effort to involve the public in the development of transportation projects.
