Central New York drivers are experiencing a minor decrease in gas prices, according to AAA. The average cost for a gallon of regular fuel is now $3.18, which is down by one cent from last week and two cents less than a month ago. Currently, the state average is $3.17 per gallon, while the national average stands at $3.14.

Despite the slight drop, drivers should not expect significant relief at the pump. As spring approaches, refineries are transitioning to summer blend fuel, which often results in higher prices. According to CNY Central, this transition may take longer to impact New York compared to warmer states.

The recent decrease in prices comes amid easing oil costs and low domestic demand, which have helped lower pump prices nationally by 1.3 cents over the past week. However, the national average remains higher than it was a month ago. AAA reports that the national average for a gallon of gas is $3.144 as of today (February 24).

With the ongoing seasonal changes and potential tariffs affecting fuel costs, drivers in Central New York and across the nation should remain prepared for fluctuations in gas prices in the coming months.
