The Central New York SPCA (CNYSPCA) is currently under investigation by the New York State Attorney General's Office following a series of complaints submitted last year. According to WSYR-TV, the complaints involve concerns about financial management, workplace culture, and the care of animals at the shelter.
While the specific focus of the investigation remains undisclosed, sources familiar with the case have confirmed that some individuals associated with the shelter have been interviewed. Monica Williams, the president of the CNYSPCA board and a former Onondaga County legislator, stated to WSYR-TV, "We do not have a comment at the moment nor am I in a position to answer any questions at this time as this is a developing situation, but we do plan to respond and we’ll do so as soon as possible."
The Attorney General's Office has not yet confirmed the investigation publicly. However, it has a Charities Bureau responsible for investigating complaints within nonprofit organizations, including charitable corporations and trusts. The CNYSPCA has a history of leadership changes following the 2016 indictment of its former executive director, Paul Morgan, for embezzlement.
The CNYSPCA has acknowledged the online allegations and emphasized its commitment to addressing animal neglect and cruelty. Williams assured that the organization will cooperate fully with authorities as they continue their mission to protect and care for animals.
