A Syracuse mother, Lynzina Sutton, will serve two years in prison after pleading guilty to assaulting a teacher at Lincoln Middle School. On Monday (January 27), the 32-year-old admitted to sneaking into the school last February by posing as a student and attacking the teacher. Sutton punched the teacher in the face, causing significant facial injuries, including a fractured nose and maxillary bones. The assault was reportedly motivated by a disciplinary report concerning Sutton's child.
Sutton initially faced 14 charges, including assault and 11 counts of endangering the welfare of a child. However, she accepted a plea deal for second-degree assault, which will result in a two-year prison sentence followed by two years of post-release supervision. The remaining charges will be dismissed at her sentencing on March 24.
According to Syracuse.com, Sutton managed to bypass school security by pulling up her hood and walking past a security guard. She then proceeded to the teacher's classroom, where the attack occurred in front of students.
CNY Central reports that Sutton's actions were driven by a report made about her child's behavior at school. Despite the serious nature of the incident, Sutton has been out on a $40,000 bond since her arrest.
WSYR-TV confirmed that Sutton will be officially sentenced on March 24.
