Former Congressman Brandon Williams has been nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to serve as the undersecretary for nuclear security and administrator of the National Nuclear Security Administration at the U.S. Department of Energy. Williams, a Republican, previously represented New York's 22nd District but lost his re-election bid in November to Congressman John Mannion.

Williams has a strong background in nuclear security, having served as a nuclear submarine officer and strategic missile officer in the U.S. Navy. Trump praised Williams as a "successful businessman and veteran" and highlighted his educational achievements from Pepperdine University and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Williams expressed gratitude for the nomination, stating, "I will be honored to lead the tremendous scientific and engineering talent at NNSA." His appointment will require confirmation by the Senate.

CNY Central reported that Williams' nomination follows Trump's endorsement during the recent election.

Utica Observer-Dispatch noted that Williams' appointment is part of Trump's broader strategy to fill key positions in his administration.
