Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh will deliver his eighth and final State of the City address tonight (January 16) at 5:30 p.m. at the Grant Middle School auditorium. This location marks the last of the city's four quadrants where Walsh has given his annual address.
During his speech, Walsh plans to highlight the progress of school building renovations, particularly under the Joint School Construction Board (JSCB), which he chairs. The second phase of the JSCB included upgrades to Grant Middle School, completed in 2021. The city is now preparing for a $400 million third phase of improvements.
Walsh's address will also reflect on his administration's accomplishments and outline future plans for the city. As required by the city charter, the State of the City address serves as an annual report to the Syracuse Common Council.
Due to term limits, Walsh cannot seek re-election this year. His speech will be broadcast on WCNY Public Television Channel 24 and streamed online on the city's YouTube channel and website.
