Three people were hospitalized after a collision involving Onondaga County Sheriff's deputies in Syracuse on Monday (January 13). The crash occurred at about 2:05 p.m. at the intersection of Harrison and South State streets near the OnCenter. Two deputies were in a patrol car heading to assist in a vehicle pursuit when they collided with another car driven by a woman. All three individuals sustained minor injuries and were taken to St. Joseph’s, Crouse, and Upstate University hospitals for evaluations.
The sheriff's office is investigating whether the patrol car had its lights and sirens activated at the time of the collision. According to Syracuse.com, the deputies were responding to a pursuit of a stolen vehicle that began about 10 minutes earlier. The pursuit involved a stolen car driven by a 13-year-old and a 14-year-old, who led deputies on a chase through Syracuse before abandoning the vehicle and fleeing on foot. One suspect was apprehended, but details on charges have not been disclosed.
The collision also resulted in damage to a cement block near the OnCenter, and the facility is assessing any additional structural damage. The investigation into the crash and the pursuit continues.
