Saint Joseph's Health in Syracuse has finalized a multi-year agreement with Aetna, ensuring that thousands of Central New Yorkers will continue to have in-network access to the hospital and its facilities. This agreement, reached just before the previous contract's expiration, affects approximately 15,000 Aetna members in the region. In a joint statement, both Saint Joseph's and Aetna expressed gratitude for the patience and support of their patients and members during the negotiations.

The deal with Aetna is part of ongoing efforts by Saint Joseph's Health to secure favorable insurance agreements. The hospital system is also in negotiations with Humana. However, as of January 1, 2025, Saint Joseph's Health will no longer be included in Humana's network for patients with a Humana Medicare Advantage plan. This change may lead to higher out-of-pocket costs for affected patients. Saint Joseph's Health is committed to reaching a fair agreement with Humana and continues to encourage patients to voice their concerns to the insurer.

The recent agreement with Aetna follows a similar negotiation with Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, where significant progress has been made toward a new contract. Saint Joseph's Health remains dedicated to providing high-quality care while balancing financial needs and keeping premiums affordable for its patients.
