An electrical fire on Sunday (December 29) in Syracuse displaced ten people from their home on Hier Avenue. The fire, which started on the second floor of a two-apartment building, spread to multiple rooms and the attic. Firefighters arrived at the scene around 12:20 p.m. and found heavy smoke coming from the roof's edges.
According to the Syracuse Fire Department, the fire was extinguished in approximately 20 minutes. Crews remained on-site for an additional two hours to clear smoke and clean up. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the residents or firefighters.
The building suffered significant fire, smoke, and water damage, particularly on the second floor and attic. The first floor and basement also sustained water damage. The American Red Cross is providing assistance to the ten displaced residents, ensuring they have the necessary support during this challenging time.
Firefighters from Station 9 confirmed that all occupants had evacuated safely before they began extinguishing the blaze. The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical in nature.
The Red Cross is actively providing immediate emergency aid to those affected by the fire.
