Syracuse is experiencing a White Christmas this year, thanks to the snow that fell Monday night and remained on the ground into Christmas Day. According to the National Weather Service, a White Christmas is defined as having at least one inch of snow on the ground by 7 a.m. on Christmas morning. Syracuse easily met this criterion, with snow reports ranging from 2 to 4 inches across the region.

The weather is expected to remain dry throughout the day, providing a rare break from the usual December precipitation. Temperatures are seasonably chilly, with highs in the lower 30s, but the lack of rain or snow means that travel conditions should be favorable. Some areas in Central New York might even see the sun peek through the clouds as the day progresses.

Meteorologist Sam Postich from CNYCentral noted that the low-pressure system responsible for the snow has moved east, allowing for clearing skies. This dry spell is a welcome change after a month filled with frequent rain and snow, as reported by WSYR.

Looking ahead, the weather pattern is expected to remain quiet for the rest of the week, with gradually warming temperatures reaching the 40s by Saturday. This calm weather provides a pleasant end to a typically snowy month in Syracuse, which averages about 11 feet of snow each winter due to lake-effect snow from the Great Lakes, as highlighted by Democrat and Chronicle.
