A 17-year-old is facing multiple charges after leading police on a chase in a stolen vehicle in Salina on Wednesday night (December 4). According to State Police, troopers spotted the teen driving a stolen 2004 gray Mazda and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The teen refused to pull over, leading to a pursuit.
The chase escalated as the teen drove through a yard and fled the area. Onondaga County Sheriff's deputies joined the pursuit and eventually located the vehicle. After a brief foot chase, the teen was apprehended. During the pursuit, a deputy sustained a broken ankle and was taken to Upstate University Hospital for treatment.
The teen has been charged with criminal mischief, criminal possession of stolen property, and unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, along with several vehicle and traffic violations. He was arraigned and is currently held at the Hillbrook Juvenile Detention Center.
