Members of the Onondaga County Republican Committee are set to vote this weekend to choose a candidate to replace Michele Sardo, the current Republican Board of Elections Commissioner who was not reappointed for another term. Two candidates have expressed interest in the position: attorney Kevin Ryan and former Liverpool trustee Christina Fadden.
The committee's decision will be presented to the county legislature, which must certify the new commissioner. The selected candidate will begin their term on January 1. This situation is unusual because the committee had previously approved Sardo for another term in September. However, the legislature did not approve her reappointment following concerns about the Board of Elections' performance. The state Board of Elections had criticized the county's handling of voter registration documents, prompting the state to send nine full-time workers to Syracuse to address a backlog.
According to CNY Central, the committee will make its decision on Saturday (December 7).
