The New York State Department of Transportation (NYS DOT) has announced the closure of the on-ramp from Sunset Avenue to Interstate 81 northbound in Syracuse, starting today. The closure, which is part of the ongoing Interstate 81 Viaduct Project, will be in effect each day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The project is expected to conclude on Friday if all goes according to plan.
The closure is necessary for utility removals, according to the NYS DOT's I-81 Viaduct Project website. During the closure, drivers are advised to follow the signed detour that directs traffic north on Sunset Avenue, to east on Bear Street, to north on Lodi Street, to I-81 northbound.
The NYS DOT urges motorists to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone, and convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license, as per NYS DOT's advisory.
