A Rome police officer is recovering from injuries sustained in the line of duty after being dragged by a vehicle for approximately two blocks. The incident occurred on Sunday when Lindell M. Reed, who was reported to be acting erratically due to several days of drug and alcohol use, arrived at the Rome Police station.

Officers determined Reed was unfit to drive and attempted to prevent him from leaving. However, Reed managed to get back into his vehicle and drove away, dragging an officer who had become caught on the driver's side door. Reed continued to flee at a high rate of speed, prompting officers to call off the pursuit due to safety concerns.

The injured officer was transported to Rome Health with non-life-threatening injuries, including a lower leg injury. He is expected to make a full recovery.

Reed was located early the next morning in the area of Beilby Road. With the assistance of the Special Response Team, Reed was taken into custody without incident. He has been charged with assault on a police officer, a class D felony, and is being held at Oneida County Jail on a $10,000 bond. Additional charges are expected, according to CNYCentral.
