Hannibal, N.Y. - A serial stalker has been arrested in Oswego County.
County Deputies say over the span of 3 days, Joseph Michaud was found inside two different homes in the early morning hours of the same day, claiming he was looking to meet a girl he met online. One time he was found standing in the doorway of child’s bedroom. One night he followed a victim home from a Byrne Dairy store, driving by their residence several times and messaging them on Facebook. He also followed another victim to where they worked, confronting them.
Michaud has been arrested and is facing several charges.
Below is the complete rundown from the Oswego County Sheriffs Office on what transpired over 4 days.
- On June 21st, 2024, at around 1:10 AM members of the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Village of Hannibal for a reported trespass complaint. The victim woke up to a stranger, identified as Joseph Michaud, in their home. Michaud left when told to leave, and claimed he was trying to meet a girl he met online. Michaud was not on scene when Law Enforcement arrived. At around 4:25 AM, another 911 call was placed to the same location in the Village of Hannibal because Michaud had returned. Michaud was located shortly after and arrested for Criminal Trespass in the second degree. Michaud was arraigned in Oswego County CAP Court and released on his own recognizance. Also on June 21st, 2024, at around 4:00 AM, Michaud entered another victim’s residence located in the Town of Hannibal and was in the doorway of a child’s bedroom claiming to be meeting with a female that does not live there.
- On June 22nd, at around 6:00 PM, Michaud followed a victim that was leaving Byrne Dairy in the City of Oswego to a residence in the Town of Oswego and drove past the residence multiple times and then began messaging the victim on Facebook.
- On June 23rd, at around 7:45 AM, Michaud followed a victim from Fastrac in the City of Oswego to the victim’s place of employment in the Town of Oswego and confronted the victim. Michaud later entered the victim’s place of employment.
- On June 24th, the three additional incidents that occurred on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd were reported to the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office and at around 5:15 PM Michaud was arrested for the other incidents and was charged with two counts of Burglary in the second degree, two counts of Stalking in the third degree, one count of Aggravated Harassment, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
Michaud was arraigned and remanded to the Oswego County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond.
