Syracuse, N.Y. - Syracuse and Onondaga County law enforcement in shock and mourning after an SPD officer and County Deputy were shot and killed Sunday night, along with a suspect.
It all started with Syracuse Police officers trying to pull over vehicle. The called for backup after learning the suspect may be armed. They lost sight of the suspect's vehicle, but tracked down an address using the license plate number.
At the address, officer saw guns in the vehicle and heard someone inside the home manipulating a firearm when suddenly shots rang out.
The names of the officers involved have not been released. Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick has confirmed the shooter 33 year old is Christopher R. Murphy, of Salina.
Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon says his thoughts and prayers are with the families of the officers and everyone in law enforcement. Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh calls it "a dark day for Syracuse."
